supports 11 mission outreach efforts in the Metro D.C. area including an
African Immigrant Ministry focus.

DIVISION FOR CHURCH IN SOCIETY
Social Issues Committee
Special interest task forces gather persons who sponsor activities
that increase awareness of or advocacy for the needs of God's people.
Currently sponsored groups include:
Crime and Violence Prevention Task Force
Latin American Task Force
Persons with Disabilities Concerns Task Force
Social Ministry Organizations Committee
Lutheran social service organizations in our area gather to discuss
common issues and to advise the synod of needs in the community.
This committee guides the process of becoming a rostered minister in
the ELCA.

Ecumenical Affairs
This office nurtures relationship with various church bodies and faith
groups in our area. With some, the ELCA has entered into "full
communion" agreements. Such relationships are established with the
following:
Moravian Church (established 1999)
Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (established 19997)
Reformed Church in America (established in 1997)
The Episcopal Church (established in 1999)
United Church of Christ (established in 1997)
